I think that as an artist my task is not to replicate the form of objects, but to capture forces invisible to the eye. This is the only thing that must be captured, the only thing worthy of being portrayed. I work within and challenge the traditions of European painting; the question of space is an important theme for me. I'm trying to reinvent appearance, to deform it into something more truthful. Trusting my instincts, I am attempting to capture the image at its most living point. What I do may be a lie, but I think it conveys life more accurately. I am trying, not to illustrate reality but to create images which are a concentration of reality and "a shorthand of sensation".
